Path of the Glacier Trail
The Path of the Glacier Trail is a short 1.1 mile hike down to the viewpoint of Angel Glacier and the face of Mount Edith Cavell. The first bit of this trail down to Angel Glacier and Cavell Pond is paved. Continuing the hike down to the glacial lake and glacier itself is much rocker terrain but remains a popular option for well-footed visitors. After gawking at the Angel Glacier for a good while, we continued onto the Edith Cavell Meadows Trail.

Edith Cavell Meadows Trail
Edith Cavell Meadows Trail is a 4.6mile trek that continues upward via switchbacks from Cavell Pond. The switchbacks are undoubtedly the worst/hardest part of the hike, but after they’re done the view is spectacular. Edith Cavell Meadows felt like a scene from Sound of Music. Grassy hills and wildflowers galore, and lots of people on AllTrails report grizzly and marmot sightings.

The trail makes a loop and then continues on to a higher peak for more daring folks. We enjoyed a picnic lunch at the viewpoint, which is a higher view of the same Angel Glacier as before.

Edith Cavell’s parking lot gets packed especially in summertime, so be sure to get there before midday. Additionally, at least during our time hiking here, this was the most annoying hike so far in terms of encounters with mosquitoes and flies. Still, it vies for the top of my favorites list of Jasper hikes for the views and wildflowers.
Whistler Campground
After a beer break at the Whistle Stop Pub in the town of Jasper, we returned to our site at the Whistler Campground for another “camp-cooked” dinner. Tonight’s menu included campfire-grilled pot pie, chicken, and green beans.

Whistler Campground in Jasper National Park was renovated just before the time of COVID and was a modern respite disguised as a campground. We loved the brand new showers and restroom facilities. Pro tip: the restrooms had lots of outlets to charge devices, too!
As dusk fell, we watched streaks of lightning and dark clouds rolling in the distance. It was a wonderfully peaceful way to end the evening.
